SMOU has taken another step in expanding its 'Parking via app' service for motorcycles by extending it to 42 BSM Car Parks, more than doubling the 18 locations where it was previously available. This expansion allows even more motorcyclists to enter and exit without taking a ticket, thanks to number plate recognition technology, and pay for their stay by the minute directly through the app.
With this expansion, SMOU further strengthens a service that recorded a 70% increase in operations during the first half of 2026 compared with the same period in 2025, delivering a faster and more convenient parking experience tailored to the needs of motorcycle users.
Express Entry for cars and motorcycles
The 'Parking via app' service allows both car drivers and motorcyclists to pay for their parking stay directly through the SMOU app, without having to use the payment machine. At car parks equipped with number plate recognition, the experience is completely contactless: entry and exit are automatic, and payment is linked to the vehicle registration number stored in the app.
Through this service, SMOU and the BSM Car Park Network continue to promote a more convenient, digital and efficient mobility experience, while encouraging the use of underground car parks to help free up public space and improve the management of on-street parking.
Smart cameras for motorcycle number plate recognition
Automatic access using number plate recognition for motorcycles is now available across the entire BSM Car Park Network (except BSM Basic Park and BSM Sant Genís - Vall d'Hebron), which is equipped with smart cameras capable of reading rear motorcycle number plates with high accuracy in just a few seconds.
The first step towards more convenient parking
All SMOU-enabled car parks can be found using the app's smart filters, which allow users to search by vehicle type, car or motorcycle, and by access method, 'Parking via app'.
To start using the service, users simply need to have an SMOU account and register their motorcycle's number plate under "My Vehicles".
