This February, SMOU celebrates its seventh anniversary, consolidating its position as the leading app for getting around Barcelona and the metropolitan area. Since its launch in 2019, the application has continuously evolved to integrate new services, improve the user experience and adapt to the changing needs of urban mobility.
Over these seven years, SMOU has experienced exponential growth: its user community has multiplied twentyfold and the number of annual operations has increased tenfold. This evolution confirms that smart, connected and people-centred mobility is now part of everyday life for thousands of citizens.
More than 20 services in a single app
SMOU currently provides access to more than twenty mobility services, including:
- Bicing
- Taxi
- Parking meter
- Residents Barcelona
- Endolla Barcelona
- Parking via app
In addition, the app provides useful information to plan daily journeys, such as a cycle lane map, public transport stops and timetables, the location of blue and green AREA parking spaces, and the availability of licensed metropolitan motosharing and bikesharing services.
SMOU is currently available in 17 metropolitan municipalities: Badalona, Castelldefels, Cornellà de Llobregat, Esplugues de Llobregat, El Prat de Llobregat, Gavà, L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Montgat, Sant Adrià de Besòs, Sant Boi de Llobregat, Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Sant Joan Despí, Sant Just Desvern, Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Sant Vicenç dels Horts and Viladecans.
A record-breaking 2025: more users and more activity
The anniversary follows an especially positive year for the app. In 2025, SMOU reached:
- 1,752,970 users, 28% more than the previous year.
- 24,882,870 annual operations, an increase of 9.36%.
These figures consolidate SMOU as a key platform for urban mobility in Barcelona and its metropolitan area.
Continuous innovation to enhance the user experience
These strong results are the outcome of an ongoing commitment to innovation and continuous improvement. During 2025, key services such as Taxi, Parking via app and Endolla Barcelona were redesigned to offer a clearer, more intuitive experience tailored to users’ real needs.
The updates have simplified processes, incorporated more relevant real-time information and improved service management from mobile devices.
At the same time, SMOU expanded its territorial presence by incorporating new municipalities such as Cornellà, Sant Feliu de Llobregat and Sant Andreu de la Barca into the Parking meter service. The digitalisation of car parks was also promoted through an agreement with the 'Gremi de Garatges de Barcelona i Província' to facilitate number plate recognition access and digital payment in small and medium-sized car parks.
