Motorbikes can now access the BSM Car Park Network with SMOU
To streamline and make motorbike access to car parks more convenient, SMOU has incorporated a new feature that allows these vehicles to enter and exit BSM Car Parks via number plate recognition.
Additionally, SMOU enables motorbikes to pay for their stays by the minute at Barcelona Municipal Services (BSM) car parks through the digital ticket service 'Parking via app' within the same application. These two advancements make it easier for motorcyclists to use the car parks, allowing them to enter without having to stop to collect a ticket or go to the ticket machine before leaving. Currently, BSM Car Parks offer a total of 1,592 motorbike spaces.
In this way, SMOU and the BSM Car Park Network position themselves as a convenient and safe option for all those who travel by motorbike in the city. They also contribute to the organisation of on-street parking and the freeing up of public space.
Intelligent cameras to read rear number plates of motorbikes
This improvement in motorbike accessibility, a first in the city, is operational in 18 BSM car parks and work is already underway to extend it across the entire network. To use it, you must be registered with SMOU and have entered your motorbike’s number plate in the “My Vehicles” section.
The car parks that currently allow motorbike access via number plate recognition are: BSM Bilbao-Llull, BSM Cardenal Sentmenat, BSM Concepció Arenal, BSM Estació Barcelona Nord, BSM Gràcia Motos, BSM Illa Borbó, BSM La Boqueria, BSM Mercat del Guinardó, BSM Mercat Sagrada Família, BSM Mercat de Sant Antoni, BSM Mitre-Putxet, BSM Passeig Maragall, BSM Pl. Francesc Layret, BSM Plaça Navas, BSM Sant Andreu Teatre, BSM Plaça Joanic, BSM P.R. Biomèdica i BSM Travessera de Dalt.
All these car parks have intelligent cameras at their entrances that can read the number plates of both cars and motorbikes with maximum precision and minimal time.
