Since 27 April 2026, cameras have been in operation to automatically issue fines to unauthorised vehicles travelling along the uphill lane of Via Laietana. Following its redevelopment, traffic arrangements on Via Laietana were changed, restricting uphill traffic to public transport and local mobility.
Users who meet the requirements must apply for an access permit. Applications can be made online through the dedicated Via Laietana website, in person at Citizen Service Offices, or by phone on 010.
Anyone travelling along the uphill lane without the relevant permit will receive a €90 fine.
Which vehicles are authorised?
Use of the uphill lane is restricted to public transport and local mobility. The following groups are authorised to travel uphill:
- Public transport: V15 and 47 bus routes, and the 120 neighbourhood bus.
- Taxis.
- Emergency and public service vehicles.
- Residents registered in the Gòtic, Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera and Barceloneta neighbourhoods.
- Third-party vehicles requested by residents of the neighbourhoods listed above, as well as third-party vehicles requested by owners of a parking space located in the Gòtic and Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera neighbourhoods.
- People with reduced mobility who have a parking space in the neighbourhoods listed above.
- Users of car parks located in the Gòtic and Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera neighbourhoods.
- Customers of businesses, such as vehicle repair workshops, as well as hotels, hostels and guesthouses located in the Sant Pere, Santa Caterina i la Ribera neighbourhood.
- Urban goods distribution vehicles travelling as far as Plaça d’Antoni Maura, from Monday to Saturday, between 10:00 and 12:00 and between 14:00 and 16:00.
