Bicing is urban transport based on the shared use of mechanical and electric bicycles. A simple, practical and sustainable service that you can use on your journeys around Barcelona. To go where you want and when you want, without fumes or noise.
Activate it from the main menu, in the "Services" section of the app, or from the User Zone. You will have to select your annual fee and make the payment online to complete your registration in Bicing. In approximately 10 days you will receive at home the “welcome pack”, which includes your card.
From the user area, in the "Services" section, select Bicing. In "My Bicing Card" you can make the first activation of the new card and you can also reactivate it if you have previously blocked it.
While you do not have your Bicing card, you can use smou to take bikes.
You've several ways to take a bike with SMOU:
- With the GPS enabled (and location permissions accepted), select the "Get bike" option from the main screen, scan the QR code near the handlebar, and wait for the yellow light to turn green to take your bike.
- Instead of scanning, you can write down the 4-digit bicycle number, which you can find on the right side near the pedals.
- Or you can manually write the QR code that you can find on the bike.
In all cases, you have 3 minutes to check the status of the bike, and if you don't think it's in good condition, you can return it and take another one without having to wait 10 minutes.
When you have returned the bike to a station, you will automatically see an information message on your main smou screen with the summary data of your journey. If the time you started your journey is still displayed on the screen, it means that the journey is still in progress. If you have already returned the bike, press "Update status" and if the journey appears as in progress, you will have to contact the customer service.
Mechanical bikes can be reserved as long as there are enough bikes at the station. You just need to select the station where you want to reserve a bike and click on "Reserve". Once the reservation is confirmed, you have 5 minutes to take the bike.
Enter your destination in the search bar on the main screen of the app, and then click on 'How to get there.' In order for the app to generate the route with Bicing according to your preferences, tap the 'Settings' icon located in the upper right corner of the screen and modify your route preferences (such as prioritizing longer stretches on bike lanes, fewer slopes, or faster routes). Go back and click on the 'b' for 'Bicing,' and you will see the personalized route.
The station icons show all the information in 3 colours:
- In red the number of mechanical bikes
- In blue the number of electric bikes
- In grey the amount of spaces available
The promoted stations are Bicing stations in which the user is rewarded for carrying out an action (taking or returning bikes) at certain times of the day. This prize consists of a bike for the user's virtual station in the Joc Bicing app. Once you have completed your virtual bike station, a virtual van will pick up your bikes and leave you change points. You can add these points to your account at any time. Fill up stations to level up and get more points each time.
You will always know which stations are being promoted, as they will appear on the map marked with a yellow circle inside the station icon.
By accessing the User Zone you can make all the arrangements related to your Bicing subscription. In the "Services" section, select Bicing and you will find all the procedures organized in different sections:
- Subscription details: information on the subscription and management of personal and bank details.
- Subscription formalities: modify the self-renewal and change the rate.
- My Bicing card: activate, block or request a duplicate Bicing card.
If you are already a Bicing user, you can use the service with all the improvements within smou.
- If you already have a smou account: go to your smou user area and click on the "Link your Bicing account" button to start the process of linking your Bicing account with your smou account. When the process is complete, you will have the Bicing service activated, with your Bicing subscription details.
- If you do not have a smou account: click here. And set the password you want to use to access smou, where you will find your Bicing data.
If you are already a user of Bicing, you only need to download the Joc Bicing app and register in (with mail and smou password). Once registered you can receive points for the trips you make using a mechanical bicycle, which you can exchange for different awards (such as electric travel packs) in the app's virtual store of the Joc Bicing.
If you've got free electric trips, you will see it automatically in the "discount" section of smou. There you can see how many trips are available and how many have already been used.
Free electric trips are automatically applied to the next electric bike trips you make, making the first 30 minutes of the journey free.
People over 16 are allowed to use the Bicing service.
People between 16 and 17 years old will need a bank card and give the following documents during the registration process at the Smou user's area website.
- Authorization signed by parents or legal tutors.
- Original or copy of the minor's DNI or NIE and also from parents or legal tutors.
- Original or copy of the family record book or birth certificate.
- Terms of Use of the service signed by parents or legal tutors.
Customer Service will check the validity of the documents as quickly as possible and will communicate by email to the user how to continue with the registration process.
To unsubscribe, you have the option to Modify the automatic renewal, with which you can enjoy until the last day of your Bicing subscription and, once it's finished, it won't renew automatically. To do this, you must access the User Zone on the SMOU website > Services > Subscription procedures.
